Seguramente la han visto con sus increíbles kimonos en eventos o simplemente paseando por Quito. Conversamos con una de nuestras personas favoritas en Front Row y hemos quedado sorprendidos con su estilo y personalidad. Por esto les invitamos a conocer un poco más de Nichole Fiorentino.
“Soy una persona que cada día vive en una frecuencia diferente”
Cuando era niña, su mamá compró varios libros y enciclopedias; entre ellos, uno sobre jardines japoneses que hablaba de la distribución de elementos y estética, lo que la cautivó; sumado a esto, el hecho de que empezó a ver anime por un tiempo.
Pero fue cuando, en una sola noche, leyó el libro “Memorias de una Geisha” que nace su principal interés sobre las geiko (termino de Kyoto para referirse a una geisha) y maiko (aprendiz de geiko) de Kyoto. A partir de esto encontró un foro en inglés de seguidores de kimonos, geiko y maiko. Hace un año, este mismo foro se trasladó a facebook lo que facilitó el aprendizaje sobre kimonos.
“Cada kimono cuenta una historia diferente”
Sus kimonos y accesorios los consigue principalmente por internet, en subastas o sitios especializados, además de diferentes intercambios. Al preguntarle pos su kimono favorito nos responde “Eso es como preguntar a un metalero cuál es su banda favorita”
Uno de los favoritos es su kimono Taisho de verano turquesa. ¡Un kimono de casi 100 años! Entre los kimonos que siempre ha querido tener están un furisode (kimono de mangas largas formal para mujeres solteras) negro y un hikizuri (kimono largo de danza) de geisha.
Según Nichole puede ser un poco complicado fusionar un kimono con un look más casual, ya que muchas personas relacionan al kimono con vestido, haciéndolo ver en algunos casos más formal de lo que es. Para esto, lo que hace es buscar kimonos con patrones geométricos y de colores fuertes dándole un toque más juvenil.
“También aprovecho varias formalidades que tienen diferentes kimonos así no voy por Quito vestida con el equivalente de kimono de novia japonesa o el equivalente de shorts y camiseta en un restaurante elegante”.
Nos cuenta que existe un estilo llamado “kimono hime” que fusiona la estética de los años 20s y 30s tanto occidental como japonesa, lo que le ayuda a crear looks más casuales y dinámicos. También lleva peinados de los años 40’s a los 50’s y accesorios en el cabello, que le dan un toque especial a sus outfits, agregando gafas statement y bolsos que combinen con el kimono.
En cuanto a moda, sus principales referentes son: Dita Von Teese, Hiroko Takahashi, Iris Apfel, y Vivien Leigh. Los días en los que no usa kimono, su estilo está en constante evolución.
Como ella diría “Es una turbo mezcla entre metalero, pin-up, nu goth”. Eso sí, siempre viste de negro. Aparte de coleccionar kimonos, Nichole, colecciona un poco de maquillaje vintage, es ilustradora y tatuadora desde hace casi 3 años que ha estado en algunos estudios.
Actualmente trabaja como freelance. Una de sus pasiones es el Branding Musical, en lo que le gustaría especializarse sin de dejar de lado algunos proyectos relacionados a la moda nacional, como su participación en el Nylon Español Crew Ecuador y algunos proyectos personales que “algún día despegarán” y esperamos que sea pronto.
Latinoamérica ha tenido una constante influencia asiática por la constante migración que ha enriquecido culturalmente al desarrollo de nuestros países, un buen ejemplo es la cocina peruana y su importante influencia japonesa, así como también el movimiento KPop, la cultura Otaku que se orienta hacia la animación japonesa y los videojuegos, estos dos muy presentes en los últimos años en América Latina.
Y hablando sobre la influencia en la moda en Ecuador… Nichole tiene su propia opinión. Nos dice que debido a nuestro clima, vivimos en un eterno “Coachella” en medio de una “neblina estética” en donde varios elementos orientales como kimonos, malas budistas, Manos de Fátima, imágenes budistas o mándalas hinduistas, han sido incorporados como estampados, accesorios, muchas veces sin tener en cuenta su origen y sin tener en cuenta su nivel de apropiación cultural.
